This site was created to give researchers access to primary and other hard to find documentation concerning the evacuation, relocation, and internment of individuals of Japanese ancestry during World War II. Much of the information you will find on this site cannot be found anywhere else, except through laborious Freedom of Information Requests or personal visits to various archives around the country.

Research Director Roger Mansell has the most-researched site for POWS in the Far East WWII. He has many years of work collecting data about the 175 or more internment and slave labor camps in Japan. Many of the companies that requested slave laborers are well known today.

BACK TO BATAAN: A SURVIVOR'S STORY

Alf Larson served in the Philippines Island before the outbreak of World war II. Surrendered to the Japanese, he survived the infamous Bataan Death March, two concentration camps, and travel aboard the Hellships. On this site, his story is captured by Rick Peterson. The site includes text, maps, and photographs to illustrate Larson's heroic story which is narrated by Larson himself. The site also includes tips from the Philippines Department of Tourism for visits to significant sites.

A really jazzy sight with historic audio. The site described the Battles of the Java Sea and Sanda Strait. The Houston went down fighting 1 March 1942. The crew roster is here. The few survivors were interned.




4TH MARINES CHAPTER AMERICAN DEFENDERS OF BATAAN AND CORREGIDOR, AMERICAN EX-PRISONERS OF WAR

Story of the 4th Marines relocating from the 15-year tour in China (protecting lives and property of American citizens in the International Settlement of Shanghai) to the Philippines disembarking at Olangapo 30 November 1941. Later transferred to Corregidor. The "Rock" was heroically defended by Marines, U.S. Army and Philippine Army until surrendered by General Wainwright 6 May 1942. Stories and photos of individual Marines, along with a plea from the site for all to submit their stories.

There are many POW events in the UK. The Singapore surrender created many thousands of POWS. Site includes personal narratives, verse, news updates re sites and members.
